AC Unit

What do new AC systems offer over older AC SYSYEMS?

The summers in Amarillo are dreadfully hot and miserable….

Read why you may want to upgrade your older system for a new system for the Amarillo summer!

No one wants

  • To use unnecessary amounts of electricity
  • To deplete the ozone with refrigerants
  • To listen to high levels of noise coming from their condensing units
  • High electric bills
  • Uncomfortable temperatures in your home

If you are in this situation right now, you may want to consider a New HVAC System.

5 benefits of replacing your HVAC system

  1. Huge savings on utilities (up to 250% savings) this can certainly justify the cost.
  2. The new refrigerant doesn’t contain chlorine so you won’t be depleting the ozone.
  3. Very little noise coming from the condenser (up to one twentieth the noise!)
  4. Peace of Mind knowing your system is safe
  5. Peace of Mind knowing your family is comfortable year around

3 items to consider when deciding to repair or replace

  1. How energy efficient is your current air conditioner?

SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. SEER is one of those hard to understand acronyms but SEER is a lot like the MPG for your car. The savings you can achieve with a higher SEER is similar to gas savings with a car that gets higher MPG. For example if you have a car that gets 8 MPG (many older air conditioners are about 8 SEER) and you upgrade to a 16 MPG car (or a 16 SEER AC) you will be achieving 50% fuel savings (or 50% energy savings on your AC use).

AFUE stands for Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency. This rating tells you how much of your heating dollars are converted to heat energy put into your home and how much is lost up the flue pipe. Many older furnaces are 60% efficient. That means that for every dollar you spend for gas from your utility company $0.60 cents is used to heat your home and $0.40 cents goes up the chimney. Federal law mandates that all furnaces being produced today be at least 80% efficient and many of our furnaces are 90% plus in efficiency. Often times if you replace on old, energy-wasting furnace the savings on your utility bills will more than cover the cost of the new furnace.

  1. How old is your current system

Older air conditioning units start to require repairs as components start to breakdown. A tool that is useful for homeowners is the True Cost Calculator. This tool helps to decide if repair or replacement is the best option for you. Our Technicians and Comfort Advisors can walk you through deciding if repairs or replacement is a better option.

Remember: The standard warranty for an air conditioner is anywhere between 5 to 12 years, while the average effective life of an air conditioner is 8-12+ years.

  1. How comfortable are you in your home?

A poorly operating or poorly designed system can leave you very uncomfortable in your home. If you have hot or cold spots in your house it can be a symptom of bigger problems with your HVAC system. Make sure your contractor looks at the duct work and does a proper load calculation when giving replacement options.

No matter what decision you make be sure to always choose a licensed contractor, have city inspections performed, and be sure to get written warranties and guarantees. The heating and air conditioning system is your homes most expensive appliance and consumes the greatest percent of energy. It is always in your best interest to maintain and protect the investment into your home with maintenance.
