    • Do I Need a New HVAC System?
The weather in Amarillo can be extreme, going from very hot to very cold quickly. You need a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system that is up to the challenge of keeping your home comfortable for years to come. If you've noticed diminished airflow, frequent repairs, hot or cold spots in your home, or other trouble signs, it may be time to consider installing a replacement system.
    • What Is the SEER Rating?
Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio or "SEER" is the rating that helps you understand the efficiency of your home heating and cooling system and how much a particular unit will save you in energy costs. Think of SEER for your HVAC system as MPG for your car. A car with higher MPG is more fuel efficient and will save you money. An HVAC unit with a higher SEER rating will help you achieve energy savings.
    • What Is the AFUE Rating?
Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency or "AFUE" shows you how much fuel is utilized and how much fuel is lost in a particular heating system. New heating systems are much more efficient than they used to be. If your home heating system is 10 years old or older, it could be about 60% efficient-meaning just 60 cents of every dollar you spend in gas to fuel the machine is actually utilized, and 40 cents is lost in the flue pipe. Today's new and improved heating systems are 80% to 90% efficient. When it comes time to replace your heater or furnace, you could see drastic energy savings reflected on your monthly bill.
    • How Big Should My AC Unit Be?
The proper size of your AC unit should depend on a number of factors. You don't want a system that is too small and won't cool your home properly, but too big is also less than ideal since you will end up spending more than you need to in both initial costs and ongoing utility fees. A Comfort Advisor from our team at Gary's can help you find the ideal AC model for your home. We'll schedule a home visit and access your home's unique cooling setup and needs. We'll recommend the proper size using a Manual J Load Calculation, as recommended by the International Building Code.

    • Do I Need to Schedule Regular Maintenance for My HVAC System?
      Yes.
Your HVAC system works hard to keep you comfortable. Regular wear and tear can diminish the efficiency of your system over time. Scheduling regular maintenance ensures the longevity of your heating and air conditioning system. Our technicians can catch any potential issues before they become expensive problems, such as leaks, rot, mold, rust, frayed wires, and corrosion at the electrical contacts. Regular preventative maintenance services will keep your HVAC system running longer and more efficiently, saving you money in the long run as well as on your monthly utility bills. We recommend two maintenance visits per year. Learn about our money-saving maintenance plans at Gary's Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc.
    • Why Are Some Rooms in My House a Different Temperature Than Others?
You could have a problem with your ductwork. According to the Department of Energy, the average duct system actually loses between 25% and 40% of the conditioned air put out by the HVAC system. Our technicians can assess your duct system and determine if there are repairable leaks and tears, or if new ductwork is in order. It is also important that your ductwork is sized properly with your equipment.
